BRANCH EQUALITY OFFICER’S REPORT 2006
I have been the Branch Equality Officer for the past two years. I am an active member of the RMBC Corporate Equality & Diversity Strategies Group. The group meets about six times a year to discuss equality issues and prioritise them in order to achieve the required outcome. Last year RMBC achieved Level 3 in Equality & Diversity, which is great news for us. As a Trade Union we continue to campaign for equality on a National level, which is only possible with our members support. I have dealt with a number of issues along with Branch Secretary, in order to resolve some equalities issues affecting our members. We have been working closely with RMBC Equality Unit, RMBC Corporate Black Members Group and have taken legal advice to have our input in numbers of policies and procedure. I am also the UNISON Branch Black Members Group Secretary. This group has been established with in the last two years. The group meets four times a year. I have been nominated to attend the UNISON Regional Black Members Committee meetings, which are held in the UNISON Regional Office, Commerce House Leeds. The Regional Committee has a responsibility to take forward issues affecting Black members locally and nationally. I will continue to support our members with equalities issues.
