BRANCH RETIRED MEMBERS SECRETARY’S REPORT 2006

This is the end of my first full year as Retired Members Officer, which has seen me attending Regional meetings as well as Local meetings. Meetings of the Regional Retired Members, which are held at Leeds, have discussed various topic.  One was self organised groups (SOG) and constitutions.  As we are not a SOG our constitutions stay as they are.  Another concern was separate wards in hospitals for male and female patients and we were asked to bring this issue back to Branches for support. I raised the issue of anti-dementia drugs being made available to all patients and more so to patients showing early signs of dementia.  On behalf of UNISON and being the Retired Members Officer, I wrote a letter to all three local MP’s asking them to sign the EDM and to give their support.  Region said this would be up for discussion and they would be taking our concerns back to their Branches. Finally, on the 18 December we had a Christmas buffet lunch and all our Retired Members were invited.  We had a good turnout and many shown an interest in building up a Retired Members Group.  Earlier in the year a trip to Skipton Market with lunch included had to be cancelled because of a poor response, but hopefully we will now get more interest in our social events. Sue ScholeyRetired Members Secretary
