Solid Strike Action in Rotherham

Thursday, 31 July 2008
WELL DONE FOR DELIVERING SOLID ACTION!UNISON members in Rotherham joined more than 500,000 members across England, Wales and Northern Ireland in sending a clear message to the employers that they are not prepared to accept a further pay cut.The strike action caused major disruption to services across the borough.  67 schools were closed with a further 8 being partially closed.  Libraries, swimming pools and rent offices were also closed.  There were no street cleansing, refuse collection or highways services across the 2 days as UNISON members were joined by GMB members in striking for fair pay.In Rotherham 2010 around 300 construction workers refused to cross the picket line in a heartening display of solidarity.UNISON wishes to thank every member who supported the strike action and also the non-members and members of other unions who refused to cross our picket lines.
