Solid Strike Action in Rotherham
Thursday, 31 July 2008WELL DONE FOR DELIVERING SOLID ACTION!UNISON members in Rotherham joined more than 500,000 members across England, Wales and Northern Ireland in sending a clear message to the employers that they are not prepared to accept a further pay cut.The strike action caused major disruption to services across the borough. 67 schools were closed with a further 8 being partially closed. Libraries, swimming pools and rent offices were also closed. There were no street cleansing, refuse collection or highways services across the 2 days as UNISON members were joined by GMB members in striking for fair pay.In Rotherham 2010 around 300 construction workers refused to cross the picket line in a heartening display of solidarity.UNISON wishes to thank every member who supported the strike action and also the non-members and members of other unions who refused to cross our picket lines.
