Pay Strike
Monday, 14 July 2008PAY STRIKE
All out on 16 & 17 July
On 16 and 17 July some of the UK's lowest paid workers will go on strike.
600,000 local government workers - care assistants, refuse collectors, cleaners, teaching assistants, social workers - the people who keep our public services going - are taking action because employers are asking them to take a pay cut.
We have been offered a pay rise of just 2.45%. Take inflation into account and it's a pay CUT in real terms.
Add in 10 years of below-inflation pay rises and average household bills rocketing £1,300 in the last year alone, it's no wonder we think this is the last straw.
It doesn't add up.
We need YOU and all your workmates to join the action. This will send a clear message to your employers that they must improve their offer and show you the respect you deserve.
Please picket your workplace if it is opening or else contact the branch office to see where you can help to make the action as effective as possible.
