2008 Pay Claim sent to arbitration
Tuesday, 07 October 2008On Monday the LGA, the employers organisation accepted UNISON's offer of resolving this years pay round through binding arbitration.
It is very unclear whether this will lead to any improvement in this years offer of 2.45%. There is no indication of how long the process will take. The branch secretary, Carol Maleham supported this move, stressing that no other terms or conditions were to be discussed, only pay.
At our branch executive a number of stewards expressed concern about the lack of information about the progress in improving pay and the exec. supported a motion calling for the union to resume its pay campaign, whatever the outcome of arbitration, in readiness for an expected inadequate pay offer in the Spring of 2009.
There is literally billions of pounds being found from government reserves to bail out the banking system - how about some guarantees that we won't be left paying for their crisis and continued profits out of our pay?
