ACTING BRANCH SECRETARY’S REPORT 2006
It has been a rather long and difficult year and one of the main areas has been the Job Evaluation and Single Status issue, which has created a lot of extra work and meetings. We are presently at a failure to agree position. Since taking over the running of the branch in Carole’s absence, I have attempted to develop three sections, namely LGBT, the Retired members and Black members. Other issues I have dealt with are the Regional Committee and Regional Council, at which discussions have taken place about pensions, Local Government funding and the continuation of Local Government as it is, in the wake of this Government’s attempts to attack our existence. I have dealt with many grievances/disciplinaries and at present I am negotiating TUPE transfers for the crematorium staff, culture and leisure swimming pool staff and the staff at 2010 double glazing unit, who are in a very vulnerable position, facing possible closure or transfer to the private sector. At present no decision has been made regarding their future. I have dealt with restructuring in finance, car parking attendants and issues in children’s and families. I am presently negotiating with Haden, who are the PFI contractors, where 25 caretakers were transferred and I am continuing negotiations in respect of rates of pay and disciplinary issues.
